Highly Requested Features Now Available in Esri’s Map Viewer Beta
Esri has updated its Map Viewer Beta with highly requested features, including layer groups, cluster labeling, and layer blending. In Map Viewer Beta using layer groups, you can conveniently turn groups of layers on and off and quickly reorder groups of layers. Labeling options can show the number of points in the cluster or the average value of the clustered points. The Map Viewer Beta also now includes 30+ blend methods which give you control over what shows through and how colors and textures between layers appear. New vector point symbols, which look sharp at all scale levels and whose colors can be changed, are available to style point features. Additionally, Map Viewer Beta can display custom vector 2D collections published with the upcoming ArcGIS Pro 2.6. With improved symbology, tables, and new map properties, Map Viewer Beta will bring your maps to the next level.
Accenture and AT&T Bring Mobile Connectivity to Phillips 66 with Private Cellular Network
Accenture and AT&T are working with Phillips 66 to develop industrial cellular wireless connectivity, with the development of a private cellular network solution. The solution will lay the foundation for potential future 5G use cases, including support for Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and low latency applications. Phillips 66 invited Accenture to address cellular performance gaps with its existing public cellular network near one of its refineries in Belle Chasse, Louisiana. The private cellular network—a local cellular network that includes cell sites and core network servers that support the connectivity of a specific organization’s requirements—was selected as a proof of concept to demonstrate the ability to handle increased mobile connectivity needs from the ongoing Phillips 66 digital transformation initiatives. AT&T was selected as the telecommunications provider to develop the necessary engineering for a dedicated cellular network solution, using multi-access edge compute across licensed spectrum.
NOAA Selects Woolpert for $40M Shoreline Mapping Support Services Contract
Woolpert has been selected as a prime consultant for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Shoreline Mapping Support Services contract. The firm and its partners will provide updated charting data and analytics of the national shoreline for use in nautical charts, to support maritime navigation, to define territorial limits, and to manage coastal resources. The five-year indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract will support NOAA’s National Ocean Service, National Geodetic Survey and Remote Sensing Division. The contract has a ceiling of $40 million. Woolpert also is under contract with NOAA’s Office of Coastal Management to acquire geospatial data of U.S. coastal regions and the Great Lakes, and Woolpert is part of a team contracted to provide Professional and Technical Services Oceans Domain support.

Descartes Labs Wins Phase II SBIR Through AFWERX to Boost U.S. Air Force Innovation
Descartes has been awarded a U.S. Air Force Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Direct to Phase II contract through AFWERX and the Air Force Research Lab (AFRL) Space Vehicles Directorate and Information Directorate. The Air Force will gain the benefit of optimized data discovery of collected sensor data and the automation of multi-modal analytical processes through machine learning and artificial intelligence powered by the Descartes Labs Platform. With the Phase II SBIR, Descartes Labs aims to advance the development of Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) through data consumption, management, and dissemination of near-real-time actionable analytics. According to the contract’s program manager, the data integration, fusion, and discovery technologies being developed by Descartes Labs are critical to providing the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Space Force with transformative capabilities for ISR sensing, sense-making, and information integration for next-generation battle management and command and control.
Stellar Solutions has announced longtime vice president for Defense Programs Betsy Pimentel will transition to a consulting role for the company effective July 1. Succeeding Pimentel is Janet Grondin, who joined Stellar Solutions as director of Emerging Space Capabilities in 2018.
